Our Values

Pedantic’s values demonstrate our commitment to advocating for connection over productivity, bringing people together to foster inspiration, curiosity, and intellectual contemplation and discussion. Our values are the structural backbone of our residency program, guiding our decision making process as our organization continues to grow. We value:

  • Connection: The heart of Pedantic is bringing people together. Founded on the art world tradition of interconnecting artists, organizers, and critics, we strive to emphasize the inherent value that collective dialogue and conversation can bring to individual practices. Our organization feels humbled and grateful to serve creative thinkers from around the world, fostering cross-disciplinary connections that continue to extend beyond our residential terms.
  • Community: We value and greatly learn from our local, Pittsburgh arts community and the global network of creatives we’ve had the pleasure and privilege of hosting since our inception. We are honored to include incredible people as our alumni, guides, and staff. The continuation of our mission lies in expanding and honoring the arts community and its members both locally and internationally.
  • Interdisciplinary Study: We honor and nurture the power that comes from the meeting of incredible and diverse minds. As an organization whose founding directors and staff remain active in their own creative pursuits, we understand the inherent strength that comes from cross-disciplinary conversation and discussion. We are grateful to host and be a part of an ever expanding network of innovative contemplation.
  • Exploration: Pedantic centers exploration and discovery, believing that the greatest way to ignite inspiration and meaningful connections is by having direct, immersive, and thoughtful experiences in community.

“The depth and breadth of this ‘immersion program’ is really exciting and a networking residency is so rare and amazing. The art world in PGH is now firmly on my map.”
