Our Mission

Pedantic Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the importance of intellectual conversation and connection within the arts. Bringing together a visual artist, curator, and writer for a month-long residency in Pittsburgh, PA, Pedantic values creative collaboration through immersive programming that centers each resident and the connections they want to build. Our program places emphasis on structured contemplation and dialogue as opposed to the typical expectation of productive output, allowing residents to focus on building relationships that carry forward after their stay. Pedantic hosts two residency cohorts per year in the summer and fall. 

Pedantic additionally hosts two individual residencies under our derivative program The Grant, inviting one person or collective to stay at the Pedantic apartment building for up to two weeks. The grantee uses this time to conduct research specific to Pittsburgh. Different from the cohort residency, The Grant is independently-driven and self-motivated.

Pedantic Arts was established in 2021 by Headwater Media and Casey Droege Cultural Productions and transitioned to non-profit status in 2026.
