The three inaugural residents included SHAN Wallace (first name spelled with all capital letters), a visual artist from Baltimore who is inspired by the nuances of everyday life, namely Black domesticity and leisure, and works across photojournalism and collage; Elise Butterfield, a curator, cultural producer, and disability advocate from Chicago whose work through co-creation with others focuses on the interaction between bodies, ideas, and space; and Joshua Ware, a writer and artist from Denver whose interests encompass both the confluence of text and image, as well as the intersection between organic and architectural forms which he calls “biomorphitecture.” Principal funding for the project has been provided by the S. Kent Rockwell Foundation.
